Let us introduce you to the 2017-2018 Squad of Heroes!
Amari was diagnosed with Precursor B-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia in October 2015 and is currently undergoing treatment. After his diagnosis, Amari earned the nickname "Too Tough." He is five years old and loves the Hulk and playing soccer. Amari is from Kansas City, MO and is this year's National Honored Hero!
Giuliana was diagnosed in October 2015 and underwent a successful bone marrow transplant in July 2016. She is currently in remission, enjoying school and doing all the things she loves: art, reading, writing and dancing. Guiliana has a twin sister, Sofia, who helped plan a Pennies for Patients campaign at their school when Guiliana was still in treatment.
Jena was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in June 2013 and is currently a teacher and campaign coordinator in the Easton Area School District. She loves sharing her journey, especially with her students, which has furthered the schools connection in supporting LLS and survivors like Jena. While Jena is our hero, her personal hero is her son who has been with her every step of the way through her cancer journey. In Jena's spare time, she enjoys knitting, crafts and loves watching soccer.
Kaidence was diagnosed in December 2010 and is in remission today. Kaidence is in 1st grade and loving life! She loves school and singing and is active in art lessons, girl scouts and gymnastics. Her favorite place is Disney World and the beach. When she grows up, she wants to be a teacher!
This supergirl was diagnosed with ALL in 2011, but that didn't stop her from being who she is. Risa is from India and now lives in Philadelphia with her family. She loves to read & write and has her own blog. She has aspirations of being a doctor and wants kids to know that "Cancer is hard, but there is nothing be be afraid of. We are strong and ready to do whatever it takes to get better."
Victoria was diagnosed in November 2009 and is proud to be a cancer free 10th grader in Philadelphia. She is known for being a kind and compassionate friend and her infectious smile.
